Vehicle Description
1968 Ford Mustang originally delivered to a Walnut Creek, CA Dealership that no longer exists. It is a two owner car. The original owner saw it on the showroom floor and bought it for his wife. It is one of 4,118 examples ordered with the California Special equipment package for the model year. Current owner purchased it in 2007 from the family of the original owner in Alamo, California.  It was a barn find owned by a lol and it is a numbers matching car. Over the next two years, it went through a ground-up restoration including a number of upgrades for safety and performance. It was finished in 2009. The builder, who is now retired from Ford Motor Company, was awarded best technician in the nation before he retired. He is considered a master builder, painter and restorer amongst his select customers in Brentwood CA who own one of his rebuilds. After the restoration, the current owner didn’t drive it much except for a few parades, weddings, funerals and family gatherings.   It was driven approximately 10,000 miles since the restoration and the odometer shows 9900 miles. This California Special coupe comes with a Marti report, service records, replaced original parts and a clean California title.Â
The original 289 ci v8 was completely rebuilt including a three angle valve job on the heads, more aggressive cam, Edelbrock intake and carburetor, pistons bored to .030, new alternator, voltage regulator, mid length headers and new radiator. Other upgrades include a 4 speed AOD transmission from an early 90’s mustang with four speed overdrive, front power disc brake conversion, Petronix ignition, Borgeson power steering conversion, Shelby drop front springs, shocks and new control arms and tie rods. The rear end was rebuilt with a 350 gear set.Â
The original fitment of the body, panel and gaps were preserved. The doors open and close nicely. The paint is car show ready. The distinctive body pieces, side scoops, lucas fog lights, rear lights, and hood blinker lights all work and are in great condition.Â
The interior was completely replaced, including the carpet, bucket and rear seats, and headliner. The radio is a period correct looking radio but is a blue tooth stereo with rear speakers hidden under the rear panel.Â
The quarter panels, floor pans, wheel houses, frame rails, torque boxes and trunk pan are all original and are in the same condition when purchased in by the current owner in 2007. Wheels are period correct with brand new tires.Â
This is a legit cream puff.Â
All original replaced parts come with the car, including the original transmission, springs, power steering, brakes, etc.Â
